Addition of stamps by year template to Congo categories
[edit]Hi. I'd much prefer if a preset template wasn't used for the categories that you added it to. The categories are postages stamps, not stamps. The words extra and flag are pointlessly redundant anyway. Know one is confused about what category their browsing because it already says "postage stamps of Belgian Congo" in multiple places without the template. So the words are just needlessly duplicative. Plus I don't like forced categories that can't be changed and usually involve a lot links. It's just anti-user and totally pointless. I'd prefer it if the templates you added to the categories were reverted in favor of how I had it. Thanks. --Adamant1 (talk) 10:25, 30 August 2025 (UTC)
- @Adamant1 No problem, I will revert them, thanks for letting me know. Tvpuppy (talk) 12:01, 30 August 2025 (UTC)
Seems like you could use it :). Would you like for this page to be protected for a bit too? —Mdaniels5757 (talk • contribs) 01:00, 6 September 2025 (UTC)
- Hello @Mdaniels5757, thank you very much for granting me the rollback right. It will indeed be very helpful in times when I need to revert vandalism. And yes, I would like for this page to be protected for a bit, recently it was targeted when I was combating vandalism. Thank you once again. Tvpuppy (talk) 01:50, 6 September 2025 (UTC)
- You're welcome!
Done for 2 weeks. I've watchlisted this page, so hopefully I'll notice if this picks back up and re-protect if needed. But if I don't, feel free to ping me or go to COM:ANBP! —Mdaniels5757 (talk • contribs) 02:34, 6 September 2025 (UTC)

Mysterious colon
[edit]Hi, Just curious, why that colon was not displaying properly without having to replace it with the code? -- Asclepias (talk) 08:59, 8 September 2025 (UTC)
- Hello @Asclepias, the colon was not displaying properly because the line began with a semicolon, and by design any colon on that line will not be displayed. See the note at the row for “Definition list” in mw:Help:Formatting, it states that “
…if the line begins with a semicolon (;), any inserted colon (:) will not be displayed. If you want for the colon to be displayed, escape it by writing
”. Thanks. Tvpuppy (talk) 12:14, 8 September 2025 (UTC):

Notification about possible deletion
[edit]Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.
If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues. |

You added Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Count of JK to this category. There may be other examples, but this is one I happened to be looking at.
This deletion request itself does not mention such issues (even though there have been COM:DIGNITY-related issues with this uploader). Should it be removed from this category? Brianjd (talk) 12:35, 27 September 2025 (UTC)
- Hello @Brianjd, sure you’re welcomed to remove it. You’re right that it doesn’t make much sense when looking at the DR, that the DR is related to COM:DIGNITY. Thanks for letting me know. Tvpuppy (talk) 12:44, 27 September 2025 (UTC)
Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2024 voting is open!
[edit]
Dear Wikimedian,
You are receiving this message because we noticed that you previously voted in the Picture of the Year contest. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2024) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
In this second and final round, you may vote for a maximum of three images. The image with the most votes will become the Picture of the Year 2024.
Round 2 will end at UTC.
If you have already voted for Round 2, please ignore this message.
Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee

Commons:Deletion requests/Files in Category:Tyler James Robinson
[edit]Wouldnt it be easier for you to get permission from the police department before uploading these screenshots? Rather than trying to convince others the images are somehow not protected by copyright Trade (talk) 01:13, 24 October 2025 (UTC)
- @Trade Sure, if the closing admin decided the images in question is copyrighted, I can try to see if I can obtain permission from the police department. I'm not actually trying to convince others of anything about this, I have only made one comment in that DR to simply state my opinion on this. Thanks. Tvpuppy (talk) 01:50, 24 October 2025 (UTC)

[edit]Hi! Would you be interested in creating a RfC regarding the use of PD-automated on bodycamera footage? I feel that would be a more efficient rather the community constantly needing to hold deletion requests about it Trade (talk) 14:47, 30 October 2025 (UTC)
- Hello @Trade, I think that's a good idea. However, I don't really know how to create a RFC, as I have never done it before. Perhaps it's better to find someone else to do it. Thanks. Tvpuppy (talk) 19:56, 30 October 2025 (UTC)

Suggestions for improvement
[edit]Hello @Tvpuppy. I’d like to thank you again for creating Template:Zeno.ru/en. I wanted to let you know that this will be very helpful in expanding content across all Wikimedia sister projects in the future (I’ve already started working on expanding it so it’s not limited to English only). However, there are some things I think I need to ask you about to ensure proper future file uploads or improvements to the existing ones.
- First about the creator’s name: the Zeno.ru platform generally includes its users’ accounts, and works uploaded by them are attributed to those accounts. Although I have so far uploaded only two files from this site and clarified that they were originally from an account on the original platform, some files uploaded from there are categorized as having an “unknown” creator, even though the username appears next to the image. So, do you think it would be appropriate to mention the user while clarifying that they are a Zeno.ru user?
- Second, regarding the user link: this site is unique in that every user/account has a personal page displaying their details, personal information, uploaded files, and other things. Do you think that when referring to a user, we should link to their personal profile page?
- Third, regarding review: I noticed that when you first added this template, you used to include a note stating that you had reviewed and confirmed it. Do we need to review every file uploaded from there, or is that unnecessary?
And that’s all. Thank you again, and I apologize if the request was too long. Wishing you all the best. Yosf22ww (talk) 18:54, 31 October 2025 (UTC)
- Hello @Yosf22ww. Thank you for reaching out.
- Question 1 and 2: I think it can be useful to include the Zeno user's name and a link to its user page. For example in this file, you can do
[https://www.zeno.ru/member.php?uid=836 frants1]to get this: frants1. - Question 3: It is not required to have the files reviewed. Generally, reviews can be done not just for files from Zeno.ru, but from any external source. This means if in the future for some reason the source becomes unavailable, then the review can be used to confirm that the copyright status of the files has already been verified. So, it is optional, but it is strongly recommended. See Commons:License review for more details.
- Question 1 and 2: I think it can be useful to include the Zeno user's name and a link to its user page. For example in this file, you can do
- By the way, the message length is completely fine. Thanks. Tvpuppy (talk) 01:19, 1 November 2025 (UTC)
New template
[edit]Hello @Tvpuppy, I recently finished creating Template:Zeno.ru/ar, which is the Arabic version of your original template Template:Zeno.ru. I wanted it to appear automatically for Arabic readers, but this is my first time creating templates, so I’m asking for your advice or review to make sure it actually works correctly or if there’s any mistake, since a day has passed and I haven’t seen any updates in the Arabic version. Thank you. Yosf22ww (talk) 15:36, 2 November 2025 (UTC)
- Hello @Yosf22ww, the Arabic version is displaying correctly for me when I switched my language to Arabic. I also updated {{Zeno.ru/lang}} to include the link, so I think everything should be working correctly. Thanks. Tvpuppy (talk) 16:50, 2 November 2025 (UTC)
Information on temporary account IP viewer rights
[edit]Hello Tvpuppy,
On November 12, temporary accounts will be enabled on Commons. The IP of unregistered users will then be hidden for most users. You, as a patroller or license reviewer, are eligible to request the new temporary account IP viewer right, if you need it to continue fighting vandalism and abuse on Commons. If you want to request the right, please file the request here. Please be aware that you also have to accept the Wikimedia Access to Temporary Account IP Addresses Policy in your preferences. For more information about temporary accounts, look at the project page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:34, 7 November 2025 (UTC)

IP vandal
[edit]Temporary account ~2025-34477-45 appears to be involved in pro-Russian vandalism, randomly adding {{Nazi symbol}} to Ukrainian and Belarusian opposition symbols. Can you please trawl their contributions to see what needs reverting? I am not in the mood to willingly deal with them, especially after the death threats from another pro-Russian vandal. --Minoa (talk) 10:14, 20 November 2025 (UTC)
- @Minoa Thanks for letting me know. I see you have already reverted some of them. I will also patrol their edits to see if there is anything that needs to be reverted. Thanks. Tvpuppy (talk) 12:55, 20 November 2025 (UTC)
Template:PD-automated
[edit]Do you have time to make a change to the template for me? Trade (talk) 02:48, 24 November 2025 (UTC)
- @Trade Sure, what changes do you want to make? Tvpuppy (talk) 02:51, 24 November 2025 (UTC)
In short Abzeronow have decided that Commons is no longer allowed to host any PD-automated files (CCTV, dashcam, etc) from Sweden. This is because Sweden provides a limited term partial copyright protection for works without any human individuality or creative input 50 years from creation.
The relevant text is:
- 49 a § Den som har framställt en fotografisk bild har uteslutande rätt att framställa exemplar av bilden och göra den tillgänglig för allmänheten. Rätten gäller oavsett om bilden används i ursprungligt eller ändrat skick och oavsett vilken teknik som utnyttjas. Rätten gäller dock inte om det huvudsakliga motivet för bilden utgörs av ett konstverk för vilket upphovsrätt inte längre gäller.
- 49 a § The one who has produced a photographic image has the exclusive right to produce copies of the image and make it available to the public. The right applies regardless of whether the image is used in original or changed condition and regardless of which technology is used. However, the right does not apply if the main subject of the picture is an artistic work which is no longer protected by copyright. (it's better just to keep the translation instead of the original text)
--Trade (talk) 03:06, 24 November 2025 (UTC)
- @Trade I added the section to Commons:Copyright rules by territory/Sweden#Pre-positioned recording devices, which I think it is a more suitable place for it. The reason is it seems there are already other countries other than Sweden that considers CCTV footage to be copyrighted (e.g. United Kingdom, and perhaps Canada, New Zealand), so it doesn't make sense to add a section dedicated only to Sweden onto the template.
- Perhaps it is more useful to add a list of not-allowed-countries to the template, or maybe adding a paragraph about Sweden at en:Threshold of originality#Pre-positioned recording devices, which the template already has a link to. Thanks. Tvpuppy (talk) 03:41, 24 November 2025 (UTC)
- Where are you reading that CCTV footage of the UK, Canada and NZ is copyrighted as well? Trade (talk) 03:50, 24 November 2025 (UTC)
- @Trade At the English Wikipedia article I linked above, which makes sense since they have even lower TOO than the US (I said "perhaps" for Canada and NZ, since it seems UK is more clear on this). Also, it appears CCTV footage from the UK has been deleted from Commons throughout the years, see some of the DRs at Category:CCTV related deletion requests/deleted. Thanks. Tvpuppy (talk) 04:49, 24 November 2025 (UTC)
- Any clue who the copyright owner is supposed to be in any of those countries? Trade (talk) 04:52, 24 November 2025 (UTC)
- @Trade For the UK, it appears to be the operator of the CCTV (as in the person/business who manages the CCTV). I'm not exactly sure for the other countries, perhaps it depends on a case by case basis. Tvpuppy (talk) 05:05, 24 November 2025 (UTC)
