[edit]How did you know it's Kasteel Staverden? This user had uploaded many files with unusuable filenames, many of these to be found in Category:All media needing categories as of 2019. Some help would be highly appreciated! Luitold (talk) 17:48, 21 September 2025 (UTC)
- In this case, it looked familiar, I looked at other pix in on Commons then said "yes, that's it". In other cases, reverse image searches sometimes help. I have been irregularly chipping at the uncategorized images, thanks for the reminder. Cheers, -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 18:02, 21 September 2025 (UTC)

Copyright
[edit]I have a question, are no images from FaceBook allowed? If the posts don't explicitly state that they are free to use? Wlaak (talk) 23:21, 29 September 2025 (UTC)
- Pretty much, same for anything else you didn't make found on the internet. It needs to be free licensed - either by being out of copyright or explicitly free licensed by the original author. Otherwise, assume it is not allowed on Commons. See Commons:Uploading works by a third party. Thanks for asking, and if you have more questions about using Commons you can't find an answer to, ask. Cheers, -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 00:19, 30 September 2025 (UTC)
- Okay, thanks Wlaak (talk) 00:21, 30 September 2025 (UTC)
- Hi again @Infrogmation, sorry to disturb, but I've created a category for structure on images etc, but the category does not seem to function properly Category:Syriac-Aramean people, for example, I cannot link it on Category:Arameans, the link takes me to a "this category does not exist" page Wlaak (talk) 18:01, 30 September 2025 (UTC)
- I'm not sure how you were trying to do it, but I added Category:Arameans to Category:Syriac-Aramean people (since the latter would seem to be a subcategory of the former). Cheers, -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 18:05, 30 September 2025 (UTC)
- I meant that in Category:Arameans, the opening line stating:
- "English: This category is for ancient Arameans. For modern people that identify as Aramean, see :Category:Aramean people."
- Cannot be changed to Category:Syriac-Aramean people Wlaak (talk) 18:07, 30 September 2025 (UTC)
- Oh! No wonder you couldn't figure it out - that was a malformed note with a link to a different category not here on Commons but on English Wikipedia - but categories of that name don't exist either place! I removed the note, and started discussion at Category talk:Arameans. Perhaps you can comment there, and give some time if others want to respond to decide on the best way to arrange things. Cheers, -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 18:20, 30 September 2025 (UTC)

You deleted this file per Commons:Deletion requests/File:Photographic silhouette of a man and a woman against a sunset.jpg which makes no sense. Please revert this deletion. RobertF-Richards (talk) 13:42, 6 October 2025 (UTC)
- The deletion seemed fairly straight forward to me. The image was elsewhere online before a copy was uploaded to Commons. The deletion request listing was open more than a month with no objections. If you think there is legitimate reason it should be undeleted, you can list it at Commons:Undeletion requests. Thanks. Cheers, -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 14:29, 6 October 2025 (UTC)
- No, my point is why you deleted the portrait of Karol Nawrocki when you were discussing the deletion of a completely different file, the silhouette of a man and woman. RobertF-Richards (talk) 15:22, 6 October 2025 (UTC)
- @RobertF-Richards: Wow. I see that File:Oficjalny Portret Prezydenta Rzeczpospolitej Polskiej, Karola Nawrockiego.jpg was listed at a different listing, Commons:Deletion requests/File:Oficjalny Portret Prezydenta Rzeczpospolitej Polskiej, Karola Nawrockiego.jpg. I don't remember doing anything to review that particular file at all. Yes, you are very correct, the edit summary doesn't make sense - but it was automatically generated. I deleted File:Photographic silhouette of a man and a woman against a sunset.jpg per that listing, and apparently File:Oficjalny Portret Prezydenta Rzeczpospolitej Polskiej, Karola Nawrockiego.jpg was deleted at the same time. I'll guess it was some sort of glitch, possibly the deletion request was malformed in some way? I don't recall seeing this issue before. Hm. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 15:31, 6 October 2025 (UTC)
- so can you undelete this file? RobertF-Richards (talk) 15:47, 6 October 2025 (UTC)
- I see you already listed it for undeletion discussion, and I replied there. In short, while I hadn't intended to delete it, the deletion might (or might not) have been appropriate per Commons copyright policy? I'll let others decide on that issue. I'm not versed on the Poland gov't license issues involved. So I'm neutral about that image. I find rather more concerning that a different file was deleted as some sort of collateral damage while deleting a specific file, which seems to me a potentially wider issue. Thanks again for bringing this issue to my attention, and I'll raise it elsewhere for more Admin eyes on how that happened. -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 15:53, 6 October 2025 (UTC)
- For what it's worth, the accidental deletion issue appears to have been resolved; an editor removed the deletion request header (apparently as a mistake, not malice). See Commons:Administrators' noticeboard#File apparently deleted unintentionally while deleting a file from a different deletion listing for details. Cheers, -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 21:33, 6 October 2025 (UTC)

Hi. User:Krdbot/lost deletion requests lists some files from Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Caterpillar84. I'm not sure if that section of the DR was closed by you, or at all. What shall happen to these files? --Krd 05:35, 8 October 2025 (UTC)
- Presuming you mean the last listing group of that name, the files were deleted. The admin who closed the request as deleted signed at bottom, Jameslwoodward. I did a spot check and as far as I can see this was proper; the uploader's claims first to be the author and then that they were from the 1920s both look false. -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 14:46, 8 October 2025 (UTC)

- Hm, it looks like one of the series of bulk deletion requests, the group at "Files uploaded by Caterpillar84 (talk · contribs) / copyright issues part 1" was archived as if it was closed but had not been, I'll guess due to some mistaken header of format when a number of related requests in a row was filed. I guess at this point they need to be relisted. -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 15:32, 8 October 2025 (UTC)

Fast food restaurant signs
[edit]Can I ask why you removed Category:Fast food restaurant signs in Georgia (U.S. state) from File:Cook Out - Macon, Georgia USA 6 September 2021 - 05.jpg? Mjrmtg (talk) 00:55, 15 October 2025 (UTC)
- Accidentally, while trying to clean up someone else's mess. (A 'brand by state' cat created and files moved there without removing the now redundant parent cats on most of the files.) I put that non-redundant one back. Thanks for attention! Cheers, -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 01:27, 15 October 2025 (UTC)

Stalled deletion requests
[edit]Hi Infrogmation - knowing you're active on deletion requests, could you take a look at and decide on these three, which have sat neglected for ages now, please?
- Commons:Deletion requests/File:Pinotaeda in Mexico.jpg
- Commons:Deletion requests/File:Scolopacidae - Lymnocryptes minimus.JPG
- Commons:Deletion requests/File:The art of phenology (14444752578).jpg - additionally, if blurring the copyright text is the best option, should I delete the original, leaving just the edited version?
Thanks! - MPF (talk) 00:47, 18 October 2025 (UTC)
- OK. Alas, we have even older open requests backlog than these. I closed 1 as kept (midling photo, but deletion not required as far as I can tell), commented on another (agree the book should be blurred if anyone thinks the rest of the photo is valuable enough to do the work, then the unmodified original deleted). The bird one I don't feel knowledgeable enough to make an informed opinion on. Cheers, -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 01:40, 18 October 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks! Was hoping you'd zap that pinotaeda one, it's dreadful quality in close, which makes it unidentifiably useless :-) I've already done the book blurring in readiness so will upload that now. The last one, just to show museums can do the job properly, compare File:Bécot.JPG, which looks far more lifelike! - MPF (talk) 11:28, 19 October 2025 (UTC)

RfA
[edit]Hello, I wanted to ask for your opinion. Do you think I should apply for adminship on Commons? Since you’re already an experienced administrator, your opinion is important to me. I have a good understanding of licensing rules (especially in Central Asian countries), and from time to time I participate in DR. After becoming an administrator I also plan to work on CSD and RfR. I am already an administrator on the kywiki, but there I mostly handle technical tasks and sometimes act as a mediator.
The main reason I’m considering requesting admin rights is that there are no administrators from my region — that is, from Central Asia. I could easily handle requests in languages such as Russian, Kyrgyz, and other related languages (see Robert Lindsay, p. 9). I will also ask other administrators for their opinions and summarize their feedback before deciding whether I should apply for adminship or not. Incall talk 16:51, 19 October 2025 (UTC)
Commons:Deletion requests/File:Anna Eynard-Lullin Bern.jpg
[edit]Hi there, just asking for a review of your decision to delete at Commons:Deletion requests/File:Anna Eynard-Lullin Bern.jpg. My reading of the discussion so far was that this was a low quality digital photo of a real object (possibly from quite an old camera), rather than an inaccurate, imaginary depiction of it. We didn't find out what details in the lower part of the statue
Yann was concerned about.
When looking for other photos of the bust to compare it to there only seemed to be one picture on the whole of the web, so a freely licenced low quality version would be good to have, if it's real. Belbury (talk) 08:49, 20 October 2025 (UTC)
- Yann's comment with link to a photo of the actual artwork, in addition to no response from the uploader, were significant in my decision. However if you think I got it wrong and wish to make an undeletion listing I will not object and I'll let others evaluate it. Thanks. Cheers, -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 15:51, 20 October 2025 (UTC)
Rockstone Pond
[edit]_1.0.jpg/250px-Altun_Ha_Maya_ruins_in_Belize_1975_Rockstone_Pond_1%262%263_(stitched)_1.0.jpg)

Someone requested some stitching and more colours in the German Wikipedia. I hope, our attempt looks similar to what you have photographed in 1975. NearEMPTiness (talk) 08:45, 23 October 2025 (UTC)
- Great job, thank you! (I'm rather surprised that apparently there have been no more recent free licensed photos.). Cheers, -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 14:23, 23 October 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks for breaking the 10000 files threshold! Please have a look at the more realistic colours (Colours corrected using Gemini AI by User:Denis Barthel). NearEMPTiness (talk) 17:08, 1 November 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks for bringing this up, @NearEMPTiness. And while we are at it: I really, really want to thank you for all the pictures you shared about Mayan ruins from back in the days. They turn out to be rather valuable for many of my articles in the German Wikipedia as documents of the state of the locations before restoration set in in the late 1980s and 1990s.
- Having that said, if you have any more, e.g. from Cahal Pech, I would be very grateful if you would share these with us too.
- Best regards! Denis Barthel (talk) 10:14, 2 November 2025 (UTC)
- @Denis Barthel: I'm delighted that some of my old photos have been useful. I was in my mid-teens in Belize, and not yet grabbing rides to go adventuring on my own as I did a couple years later. In the mid 1970s Altun Ha and Xunantunich were basically the only sizable publicly accessible Maya sites in Belize, in that one could drive to them (or in the case of Xunantunich, drive to the canoe ferry then walk 1km up a steep hill). I persuaded my parents to make weekend day trips to both sites, then a few months later attached myself to a Mayanist tourist group to make return visits. I did stop in San Ignacio, but unfortunately not Cahal Pech - my impression is that it was overgrown mounds in pasture land that people payed little attention to at the time. No one I was with thought it worth making a stop at. Ah, so many things I would have insisted on photographing had I known there would be a Wikimedia Commons decades later! I think my Belize photos of archaeological interest which I hadn't scanned earlier were completed when I did lots of scanning during the pandemic lock down a few years ago, but next time I go through my surviving old film photos I'll take another look to see if I missed anything. Thank you for your note and your work on Wikimedia. Cheers, -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 18:12, 23 November 2025 (UTC)

Removed discussion on historicity of so called ŻOB Flag
[edit]Hi, I marked so called ŻOB flag for deletion, as it has no grounding in history or any historical source, yet it is used widely on wikipedia in many languages, and by this, it change historical truth. No one in that marked for deletion talk gave any proof that such flag is authentic. Only one guy gave „keep” vote and he said that it should be keeped because „it is in use in wikipedia” - that is why I nominated it in the first place, because this flag make false claims of history.
Why did you removed this discussion and marker? Do you have any source that this flag is historic? Prkp99 (talk) 09:19, 29 October 2025 (UTC)

- The first question I addressed at Category talk:High school marching bands from the United States. The second question, yes, if one wished to be complete. I agree with the IP user who previously nominated this for discussion, this image is not of him. As requested by you at Commons:Deletion requests/File:Zenito Cardozo.png, I have started a discussion on the same at en:w:Talk:Zenito Cardozo#Image of wrong person. - Thanks for your comment. My closing that listing as "kept" was weighted heavily by the fact that the image was in use (in addition to the listing being by an anon with no other edits who got no support for their listing). I see the file is no longer in use. I would have no object to the file being relisted. Cheers, -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 22:18, 4 November 2025 (UTC)

Category:Teenagers
[edit]Indeed, teenager can refer to someone who is thirteen to nineteen years old. The Portuguese translation for teenager like "adolescente" completely confused me. Danfosky (talk) 19:56, 14 November 2025 (UTC)
- Yes, I'm unsure this English language term is the best way to categorize things, but it does have a specific chronological meaning. Cheers, -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 19:59, 14 November 2025 (UTC)

A big thank you and a minor clarification
[edit]Hello Infrogmation! Greeting! First of all, a big thank you for your amazing contribution! It's really impressive to see so many images added. That's a fundamental contribution to the history of NOLA! A big respect!
Regarding the edits like this one, if you do not mind, let's please have them in both categories one and two for now, ok? This way people coming to the category will not need to make an extra click to go to sub category as all of the pics in first are from the second. Later, when a considearable ammount of pictured will be from other days we can separate and make this a sub category ofthis. :) Thank you. Regards, Oleg (talk) 15:20, 23 November 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks for your work and comments. I believe that would be technically redundant; Wikimedia best practice is that usually if media is in a specific subcategory it doesn't need to be in the parent category as well. However I won't argue with you on this one. I do recommend that when one takes a large number of photos of a particular subject at the same time, and all the photos could be in the same group of categories, one can make a category for the intersection of those categories, so all the images can be in that category rather than having all the individual categories on every individual image. While not required, I've found in practice this can be very helpful in organizing and finding things. Thanks again for all your great photos. Cheers, -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 16:55, 23 November 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you for agreeing and you are totally correct about the categorization, what I have asked is certainly an exception to the rule, and I am aware of it. Over time when pics will come from various years we will remove the parent category. :) Thank you. Regards, Oleg (talk) 18:13, 23 November 2025 (UTC)
